Most Disliked
Some diners express concerns about the crowded atmosphere during peak hours, particularly on weekends when the restaurant reaches full capacity. While it contributes to the vibrancy of the place, some feel the noise level might hinder conversation. Additionally, the compact seating arrangement can feel slightly cramped, especially for larger groups. A few patrons have suggested that while the service is generally warm and friendly, there are times when staff are overwhelmed, leading to longer wait times for food and service during busy periods. Despite these minor complaints, most agree that the quality of food and overall experience far outweigh these inconveniences.

Alkumah is hands down one of the best Middle Eastern spots around. The food is always fresh, flavorful, and cooked to perfection, from their juicy grilled chicken to the mouthwatering kebabs and shawarma. Portions are generous, and everything tastes homemade. The service is warm and welcoming, and you can tell they put real care into the customer experience. The spreads, fresh bread, and grilled meats make every meal feel like a feast. Whether you’re dining in with family or grabbing takeout, this place never disappoints. Highly recommend to anyone looking for authentic, delicious halal food!

Authentic Syrian cuisine - with excellent recipes passed down from generation to generation. The oldest restaurant on Main in South Paterson. The brothers make you feel at home and the food is made with love.

Review (5/5) From the moment we walked into Alkumah Halal, we were greeted warmly and felt welcomed—an inviting start to a memorable dining experience in Paterson. The highlight of the meal was undoubtedly the kababs: perfectly seasoned, beautifully grilled, and cooked over charcoal so that each bite had that wonderful smoky depth of flavor. The mixed grill platter (featuring kafta, shish-kebab and other skewers) stood out in particular for its generous portion and balanced seasoning. We also enjoyed the tender grilled chicken and richly spiced kofta, both executed with care. (Multiple recent reviews praise the charcoal-grilled meats for their flavor and portion size.) The service matched the quality of the food. Our server was attentive and genuinely friendly—it felt like genuine hospitality rather than just “good service.” He made great recommendations and ensured our dining pace was relaxed and comfortable. The ambiance, while casual, felt clean and comfortable—a perfect setting for a relaxed meal with family or friends. In addition to the meats, the sides and starters were also noteworthy. The hummus was smooth and fresh, served with warm pita; the salad (a crisp tabbouleh) cut through the richness of the meats nicely and added a refreshing contrast. The menu also offers vegetarian-friendly options, which is a nice bonus. If you’re looking for an authentic Middle Eastern meal with both flavor and hospitality in Paterson, Alkumah Halal is a strong choice. The combination of expertly prepared kababs, attentive service, and welcoming atmosphere makes it a “must-visit” for lovers of halal grilled meats. Highly recommended — we left satisfied, impressed, and already planning our next visit.

This is the best place to eat in Paterson. Period. I’ve tried em all. Alkumah Halal isn’t just a restaurant. It’s a Paterson legend. Been holding it down longer than most people reading this have been alive. And they still deliver elite flavor, top-tier service, and humble energy like it’s day one. The food absolutely hits The grilled chicken is next level. Smoky, juicy, and seasoned like they cooked it over fire and prayer The shawarma is the truth. Tender, flavorful, and stacked The kafta is real deal. No shortcuts. No dry meat here And the garlic sauce? Fluffy, strong, addictive. You’ll be dipping everything in it like a savage The hospitality is unmatched The service is fast, respectful, and real The portions are heavy. They feed you like you’re family No gimmicks. No trendy TikTok hype. Just straightforward, legendary Middle Eastern food served by people who actually care If you’re in Paterson and not eating at Alkumah, you’re doing it wrong!!

If I could rate this restaurant 100/10, I absolutely would. From the moment we walked in, the owners and staff greeted us with such warmth and hospitality, making us feel truly welcome. The food was made fresh, and every bite was absolutely delicious. The portions were generous, and to top it off, the owner was kind enough to add extra sides to our order. Throughout our meal, they checked in on us multiple times to ensure everything was perfect. Their kindness didn’t stop there—after all that amazing service, they even treated us to tea on the house, which was such a thoughtful gesture. I highly recommend giving this place a try—you won’t be disappointed!
